The Ultimate Guide to Using the Slingshot One-Lock Foil System
Introduction
The Slingshot One-Lock Foil System is a game-changer in the Wing Foil Industry, designed for quick, tool-free assembly while maintaining a strong, drag-minimizing connection. Engineered by foil designer Bobby Johnson, this system allows riders to install and remove their foils in seconds, making setup on the beach effortless and efficient.
Whether you're new to foiling or a seasoned rider looking to optimize your gear, this guide will walk you through assembly, adjustments, maintenance, and troubleshooting for the Slingshot One-Lock Foil System.
1. How the One-Lock System Works
The One-Lock system simplifies foil assembly by eliminating screws and bolts, replacing them with a secure latching mechanism. Here’s how it works:
- The front wing and rear stabilizer wing slide together into the collar of the fuselage.
- The front wing fuselage tapers to allow an easy assembly and and guarantees a secure fit within the Mast.
- Once the complete lower plane is in place, the latch locks down, preventing any rocking or movement.
- The system works seamlessly with both aluminum and carbon foil masts.
This tool-free locking mechanism means you can set up your foil in under 10 seconds!
2. Step-by-Step Assembly Guide
Setting up your One-Lock Foil is quick and intuitive. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Attach the Mast to the Board
The One-Lock system includes an RTS (Rapid Track System) kit for quick installation:
- Identify the T-locks, sleds, and anchors on your board.
- Mount the Anchors on your board where you want the front of the mast base plate to be located.
- Slide the mast sleds into the pre-mounted anchors.
- Fit the T-locks over the back of the mast pedestal.
- Keep the sleds slightly loose to adjust for track variations.
- Tighten down the sleds and anchors.
- Once these are secured to your board, you wont need to mount them again.
Step 2: Install the Front Wing
- Align the Front Wing with the Mast foot collar and slide it into place. .
- Make sure the Stylized Arrows are all pointing in the same forward direction.
- Make sure the Latch is hanging freely outside of the mast collar.
Step 3: Attach the Rear Wing Stabilizer Tail
- Slide the Stabilizer Tail (rear wing) into position in the collar.
- align the Latch perpendicular to its housing in the fuselage.
- Push the latch down until it clicks, securing the entire system.
- The sound should be a satisfying click/snap.
- Your foil is now locked in and ready to ride.
3. Adjusting Your One-Lock System for a Perfect Fit
Over time, the latch may require small adjustments to ensure a tight, rattle-free connection. Here’s how:
- If the latch feels too tight → loosen the adjustment screw slightly.
- If the latch feels too loose → tighten the screw to make the connection more secure.
- If the latch won’t fit into the fuselage, try extending the Dyneema line by tightening the screw.
Keeping the correct tension on the latch will help maintain a snug and reliable fit.
4. How to Disassemble the One-Lock Lower Plane
The One-Lock system is just as easy to disassemble as it is to set up. Follow these steps:
- Open the latch to release the rear stabilizer.
- Wiggle the stabilizer back and forth—this movement helps it unseat from the internal collar.
- Once loose, gently pull it out (no mallet needed!).
- To remove the front wing, push down first to unlock it, then slide it out completely.
By using this method, you can take apart your foil in seconds without excessive force.
5. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Replacing the Latch
Each One-Lock front wing comes with a replacement latch kit, which includes:
✔ A new latch
✔ A fin key
✔ A replacement pin
To replace a worn-out latch:
- Use the fin key to unscrew the latch pin.
- Remove the old latch and insert the new one.
- Screw the pin back in until it sits evenly on both sides.
- Make sure your Pin is flush with the fuselage on both sides or it may damage the mast collar.
- Your foil is ready to go!
Fixing a Loose Dyneema Line
If the Dyneema line stretches out and becomes too long:
- Loosen the pin using an Allen key.
- Create a small secondary loop in the Dyneema line to shorten it.
- Secure the pin back into place.
- This temporary fix tightens the latch until you can replace it.
- Make sure your Pin is fluse with the Fuselage to avoid damaging your mast collar.
Cleaning & Care Tips
- Rinse all components with freshwater after each session to remove salt and sand.
- Inspect the latch and connection points for wear and tear.
- Tighten any loose screws to maintain a secure fit.
